The Time Travellers Wife - Audrey Niffenegger.

I loved this book. Absolutely adored it. Its being turned into a movie, something i really hate but would be interested in how they make this work.

Henry is just an ordinary bloke who time travels. He has Chrono Displacement, which means his genes cause him to time travel. Clare is an ordinary girl in love with Henry. He's been around for years for her, since about age six.

The book covers periods in their lives from when Henry first discovers he can time travel at age 8 to Clare at age 81. Henry can take nothing with him when he goes and frequently must steal or mug someone for clothes, money and food is shown to be directly opposite in character to the one he shows to Clare.

The many twists and turns in this book make for very interesting reading, I literally could not put it down. I was sucked in by page one. The ins and outs of this relationship, how they both must deal with Henry's Chrono Displacement and the effect this may have on any children they have.

Warning, it does get a little confusing, especially when there is more than one Henry in the scene and is also so very heartbreaking yet sublime.

9 out of ten.

Books i have to read and more i have to find

1. I am in the process of reading "Delta of Venus" by Anaïs Nin. (keep in mind it is erotica)
2. Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
3. Heavens Net is Wide by Lian Hearn (i have read all of the previous ones and i must finish this one!)
4. The Nether Regions by Sue Gough (i have had this book for a few years and have not been able to sit down and finish it!)

I think that is all for now, we shall see how long it takes me. I am planning to finish off the last of the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton (she also wrote the Anita Blake series which I talked about here)

I am up to book 5 - Mistral's Kiss, which means i have only to get 3 more and i am finished!! I own all of the Anita Blake series, it took me 2 years to get.

I have a wishlist of books i wish to read, and i shall post about that soon. I am going to go back and re read books i own very soon.

but for now i leave you with this quote :

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be
chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts,
others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly,
and with diligence and attention.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

This book is odd... Very odd. I understand the reasons behind the story, but it seems overdone. The nonsense is over the top and confusing. It is a classic and that I understand. Far be it for me to claim that this book needs to be stuck off as some nonsense.

I have read this book as a child and now as an adult. I am sure it is not a children's book. The main character may be a child, but the intricacies of the book are too complex for a child. The Cheshire cat is chilling in his invisiblity. It seems strange.

I love the childlike innocence of Alice, I remember playing the same games as a child, lets pretend things like that. I learned how to play chess in year 10. Tweedledee and Dum are hilarious and the poor mad hatter needs to wean off the mercury.

Dont get me wrong, i love this book. Its just very odd.

Devil Bones - Kathy Reichs

The latest book in the Tempe Brennan series by Kathy Reichs is just as good, if not better than the previous ones.

Tempe must work to identify a skull found in a basement. Did this person die for nefarious purposes? The indications surrounding where the skull was found would indicate that.

Then, another body is discovered. Headless, wrapped in plastic and abandoned on a beach.

Tempe must unravel these deaths, and find out if they are connected. Hindered by a zealot turned politician and the media it is a race against time to understand what happened to these people.

I loved this book, and the previous ones. While Kathy Reichs proves she is a leading force in her field, she explains the scientific issues in the book in depth, this can be a turn off as i find that the book can drag a little, but perhaps that is just me.

Well worth the read, intriguing, interesting and informative.

Anita Blake : Vampire Hunter by Laurell K Hamilton

Laurell K Hamilton has written a series of 15 books all starring Anita Blake. Anita is called the Executioner by the Vampires and is the one the police call on when things get messy. Anita lives in a world where Vampires and Wereanimals do exist. She carries a browning and a firestar gun and takes no shit from anyone.

Jean -Claude the vampire is one hot sounding character. i'd love to take a roll in the sack with him :P

These books are gritty and fast paced. not one for the faint of heart or weak stomach. Hamilton goes into detail about blood and gruesome things. a fantastic read if you want to read about a woman who can kick ass.

book 1 - Guilty Pleasures

The Art Of Undressing - Stephanie Lehmann

I am approximately half way through this novel. it is bright and fresh and funny.

Ginger's mother is an ex- stripper and all Ginger wants is to be a Chef, but Ginger must turn to her mother when she needs help to seduce a fellow culinary school student.

Well worth the read if you dont mind talk of hello kitty vibrators and sex and other gruesome yet delicious details.

my favorite line so far is :
"Desserts, she liked to say, are 'sex on a plate'. In my opinion, sex was 'dessert in bed'
